Hello,

As you have opted to read about Personal Development so I believe that we should start it from  scratch level so that we have clear understanding on this concept.

Personal development is combination of two words –

  1.  Personal
  2.  Development

Before we start talking about personal development, it is important for us to discuss and understand individual meaning of each word i.e. Personal and development for better understanding of this concept.

People usually misinterpret things because they either don’t know meaning of the word or they have different thought process to interpret any word or term. Such differences lead to misunderstanding or differences in opinions. Even when I am writing my interpretation of Personal Development , there might be several people who may have different opinion. However, my interpretation is based on origin of that word and take up to the how do we link it to the broader level.

Let’s talk about “Personal” –

Personal  - Dictionary meaning of word personal is “relating or belonging to a single or particular person rather than to a group or an organization”, Private, related to an individual

My interpretation for “Personal”  is anything or everything related to an individual. If we talk about term personal at broader level, just think what is your own which comprises you as an individual. What would you select from the options given below.

  1.  Your bank balance, property etc.
  2.  Your family
  3.  Your friends and other loved ones
  4.  Your physical appearance
  5.  Your Social status
  6.  All of the above-mentioned pointers
  7.  None of them

You can write your answer in the comment box.

My answer will be none of them. Personal means not the things outside you because those things or status is for you to fulfil your needs, wants and desires. Your possession to these things is temporary. Moreover, all these things don’t represent or define you exactly you as an individual.

For example – you purchased a house. This house is either your need or your want. Need means any basic requirement which is important for survival whereas want means any thing that you desire over and above your basic requirements.

This house may represent your financial or social status but it can’t represent you as an individual person or your identity. What If you sell this house after sometime or shift in different house??

Personal means which defines you as an individual and create your identity like your mindset, your soul and your body because all these elements are within you and combination of all these elements makes you as an individual. Your status, belongings and appearance etc, all these outer elements are result of your beliefs ,thoughts, and actions which comes from your mindset, soul and body.

Soul – Beliefs

Mindset – Thoughts

Body     –  Actions

You can write your understanding in the comment box.

“Development” dictionary meaning of this word is growth.

I interpret development as a  better version of anything with positive intentions which serves positive outcomes

Personal development means better version of yourself to serve positive outcomes with positive intentions which includes –

Development at Soul level –strengthen your beliefs in supreme power of this universe

Development of Mindset – Expansion of your thoughts beyond ordinary limitations by removing negative thoughts for yourself and others (if possible).

Development at physical level –It means engaging yourself in such activities which helps you to attain your life goal. Keep in mind that your life goal must be something that you accept to achieve with your soul and mind. Nothing is impossible in this world. Its matter of belief.

Your beliefs and thoughts should reflect in your actions because your soul, mind and body all are interlinked. Misalignment in any of these elements is like running in different directions at the same time and reaching nowhere.
